Today, I'm collaborating with interior designer/architect , Chad Dorsey. As usual, I asked him JP's 3, photographed him & discussed why his outfit makes a fashment.

JP's 3

Question 1: If you could interior design for any celebrity, dead or alive, who would it be and why?

Chad: I would design for Ina Garten, I learned to cook from her, I admire her so much, I would love to design her home. The idea of building her a home and kitchen that evokes her charming style and personality would be a memorable experience. Ina offers a lot of comfort and happiness to many people, after all she’s Barefoot Contessa.

Question 2: Being an architect and interior designer, you consider your design DNA to be “relaxed luxury” please further explain & how you carry your signature into a room?

Chad: “Relaxed luxury” is a style that makes everyone feel comfortable, not pretentious but using quality materials and textures that people appreciate. A discerning eye would actually pick out those things where others it may go unnoticed.

Question 3: How have you coped with this new normal, any self-discoveries, new design inspiration? Your latest drop, STRIKE collection featuring dashing finishes for fireplaces such as marble or limestone is striking to say the least. What made you want to solely focus on fireplaces?

Chad: During COVID, it’s been a chance for me to spend more time at home. I’ve appreciated being there more now for the first time, since I’m always on the go. It’s really taught me to enjoy my house from relaxing, working to cooking. Our clients are wanting to create a vacation experience in their home since vacations are out of the picture. In my line, STRIKE just came out of designing some fireplaces from projects and realizing they’re no architects/interior designers could buy a modern fireplace. I created a line of fireplaces based on that need.

BONUS: I understand you’re a vice chair to the Kips Bay Decorator Show House along with celebrated designers across the country at the end of the month. Care to elaborate further about this event for any interior design enthusiasts? This prestigious event is held in New York City, Palm Beach, and now Dallas.

Chad: We are very lucky this is an inaugural year for Dallas, hopefully many years to come. Kips Bay organization raises funds for the Boys and Girls club with help from local Dallas charities, Dwell with Dignity and Crystal Charity Ball. The event allows interior designers to design and create whatever they would like in a room from September 25 to October 25th. Tickets are on sale now and you can purchase via Kips Bay website. I’m looking forward to seeing Jan Showers, Kelli Ford, Doniphan Moore, Michelle Nussbaumer and Mark Sikes design spaces and more. This event will shine a spotlight on Dallas for the month and in the design community everyone is dying for something right now. It will be a great opportunity to showcase individual style and the whole world will be eagerly watching us.
